Calais Children Refugee Week Screening

On June 24th, Refugee History is hosting a screening of Calais Children at Cinema City as part of Norwich Refugee Week 2018. Attendance is free and all are welcome. Event details here.

Calais Children is a film and live campaign by Sue Clayton. It follows what happened to the almost 2000 lone children who were in the Calais Jungle when it burned down at the end of 2016. Most of these children had a legal case to be in the UK. The documentary served as evidence when the case of one of the unaccompanied minors from Calais went to the High Court in February 2018. More information here.

The film will be preceded by a short documentary made by a student at UEA and followed by a Q&A responding to the film and highlighting the work of local refugee organisations in Norfolk. The panel will include representatives from CIty of Sanctuary, Phone Credit for Refugees, and the Friend Ship.

PsycheDelight's 'Borderline' Returns to Norwich

On June 16th, Refugee History will host PsycheDelight's acclaimed play Borderline for a second time as part of Norwich Refugee Week 2018.

Borderline is a satire of the Calais Jungle devised by an ensemble of refugee and European performers, and directed by Sophie NL Besse. This brave and original take on a controversial topic boasts a cast of thirteen. It features performers from Afghanistan, Sudan and Syria, who experienced Calais first-hand, and six British, French and Chilean experts in physical comedy.

Borderline highlights the absurd aspects of European border control and of the asylum regime. It also reveals a side of the ‘Jungle’ camp that is rarely seen: the camaraderie, resilience and ingenuity of its inhabitants. After performances sold out repeatedly in London, the cast have toured in the UK, Europe and India.

This performance is open to school students and members of refugee support organisations in Norwich.
